Inastudyin2010,itwasfoundthat,amongallthefactorsthat.affectintelligence,infectious

diseaseworksasthebestpredictorofthebunch.ArecentstudybyChristopherHassallandThomas

Sherrattrepeatedthestudyusingmoresophisticatedstatisticalmethods,andconcludedthat

infectiousdiseasemaybetheonlyreallyimportantpredictorofaveragenationalIQ.

Supportforthishypothesiscomesnotonlyfromcross-nationalstudies,butfromstudiesof

individuals.Therehavebeenmanystudies,forexample,showingthatchildreninfectedwith

intestinalwormshavelowerIQlaterinlife.AnotherstudybyAtheendarVenkataramanifoundthat

regionsinMexicothatwerethetargetofmalariaeradicationprogramshadhigheraverageIQthan
