Here is a 5R rule for us:ReduceIf you want to reduce waste, you should use things wisely(明智地). A larger number of trees are cut down to make paper. If everyone uses paper carelessly, soon we will not have any trees left. Other things are also being wasted, and people dont know what to do with the waste in big cities. So it is necessary to use things wisely.ReuseYou should always think of reusing the usable things before throwing them away. For example, you can give your clothes you do not wear any more to the poor. In a family, you may pass on such clothes to younger brothers or sisters.RecycleBottles, cans and paper can easily be recycled. By recycling them we save lots of time and money. For example, Coke cans are sent to a factory, where they are smashed flat (壓平) and melted(融化) and the metal things are made for new Coke cans.Recover(恢復(fù))When you buy a box of apples, there may be a few rotten(腐爛的) apples, you have two choices(選擇): One is to throw the whole apples away, or you can cut off the rotten parts and keep the good parts. In the way, you are recovering the eatable(能吃的) parts of food.RepairIf one of the legs of your table is broken, you can repair it. If you want to change for better ones, it is better for you to sell the old things or give them to other people who can use them after doing some repair.(1)The reduce rule mainly wants us . Until recently, few people took the saying very seriously. Now however, doctors have begun to study laughter and the effects(作用) it has on the human body. They have found evidence that laughter really can improve peoples health.Tests were carried out to study the effects of laughter on the body. People watched funny films while doctors checked their heart rate, blood pressure, breathing and muscles. It was found that laughter has similar effects to physical exercise. It increases blood pressure, the heart rate and the rate of breathing. It also works several groups of muscles in the face, the stomach and even the feet. If laughter exercises the body, it must be helpful.Other tests have shown that laughter appears to make the effect of pain on the body less. In one experiment doctors produced pain in groups of students who listened to different radio programs. The group which could bear the pain for the longest time was the group which listened to a funny program. The reason why laughter can make pain less seems to be that it helps to produce endorphins( 內(nèi)啡肽) in the brain. These are natural chemicals which make both stress and pain less. There is also some evidence to suggest that laughter helps the bodys immune system that is the system which fights infection(感染). In an experiment, one group of students watched a funny video while another group served as the control group-in other words, a group with which to compare the first group. Doctors checked the blood of the students in both groups and found that the people in the group that watched the video had an increase in the activity of their white blood cells that is the cells which fight infection. As a result of these discoveries, some doctors and psychiatrists(精神病學(xué)) in the United States now hold laughter clinics, in which they try to improve their patients condition by encouraging them to laugh. They have found that even if their patients do not really feel like laughing, making them smile is enough to produce good effects similar to those caused by laughter.(1)We learn from the first paragraph that laughter . (5分)根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,回答短文后的問(wèn)題。 Researchers say that nearly two thirds of children dont get enough sleep, and this can make them nervous and slower at school. So how long should young people sleep each night? The answer is between 8 and 10 hours. If you dont get enough sleep at night, youll have less energy the next day.A report shows that children sleep less because they have TVs and computers in their rooms, and busy parents dont read to their younger children at night any more. The traditional bedtime story helps children to relax and fall asleep peacefully. Children with TVs and computers in their bedrooms were more likely to sleep badly, and to get less than eight hours sleep. Even losing one hours sleep a night can mean that children do worse than usual at school.British scientists think that your brain keeps working while youre asleep. To show that they were right, they have done an experiment. They gave two groups of people a problem to work out. One group went to sleep, and the other group stayed awake. You want to know the result? The people who slept worked out the answer more quickly. Researchers explained that their brains were trying to find the answer while the people were asleep. So, make sure you get enough sleep tonight, and youll be at your best tomorrow!(1)How long should the young sleep every night? (2)What does the writer think of the traditional bedtime story? (3)Are the children with computers in their bedrooms more likely to sleep better? (4)In the last paragraph, what does the experiment show us?
