1、精選文檔unless的基本用法 連詞unless意為“除非假如不”，“除了”，多引導(dǎo)一個(gè)否定意義的真實(shí)條件句，有時(shí)也可引導(dǎo)非真實(shí)條件旬。unless引導(dǎo)條件句時(shí)，主要用于下列狀況。 (1)主句為確定句。如： Unless I visit every bookstore in townI shall not know whether I can get what l want假如我不到城里每一家書店去看看，我就不知道是否能買到我想要的書。 You will miss the bus unless you hurry up你要不快點(diǎn)就會(huì)錯(cuò)過班車。 Youll fail in chemistry a

2、gain unless you work harder假如你不再加把勁，你化學(xué)考試還會(huì)不及格。 (2)主句為否定句。如： Unless you oil the motor regularlyit wont run smoothly要不是你經(jīng)常給發(fā)動(dòng)機(jī)上油。它就不會(huì)轉(zhuǎn)得那么順暢。 I wouldn't be saying this unless I were sure of the facts要是我對(duì)這些事情沒有把握，我就不說這話了。 You will never get anywhere unless you have set your goal假如你不設(shè)定目標(biāo)，你哪兒也去不了。 二、

3、應(yīng)留意的一些問題 1unless不能與if'"not換用的狀況 unless在意義上相當(dāng)于if.not，因此在有些場(chǎng)合中unless與if.not可互換使用。如： Unless I am mistakenIve seen that man before=lf I am not mistaken。Ive seen that man before假如我沒搞錯(cuò)，我以前見過那個(gè)人。 Unless the strike has been called off，there will be no trains tomorrow=lf the strike has not been call

4、ed off。there will be no trains tomorrow除非罷工結(jié)束了，明天才會(huì)有火車。 但在有些狀況下，二者不行互換使用。如： (1)當(dāng)unless引導(dǎo)非真實(shí)條件句時(shí)，一般不行改用if.not。如： They couldnt afford to live in such an expensive apartment unless they were rich除非他們很富有，否則就住不起這么昂貴的公寓。 They couldnt have arrived at the site instantly unless the police had had a helicopte

5、r除非警方有直升機(jī)，不然他們就不會(huì)即刻趕到事發(fā)地點(diǎn)。 以上兩例中，unless從句均表示與事實(shí)相反的狀況。假如把unless換成if.not(if they were not rick,if the police had not had a helicopter)就與原句意義完全相反了。 (2)if.not引導(dǎo)的條件分句可以重疊使用，unless則不行，由于unless表示唯一條件，不能用and連接兩個(gè)unless引導(dǎo)的從句。如： She wont lose weight if she does not keep a diet and if she does not take exercise

6、 every day=She wont lose weight unless she keeps a diet and takes exercise every day除非她堅(jiān)持節(jié)食、每天熬煉，否則是不能減肥的。 (3)unless引導(dǎo)的條件句可用否定結(jié)構(gòu)，而if.not引導(dǎo)的條件句不行再加以否定，由于兩個(gè)not不能重疊使用，因此在unless引導(dǎo)的否定條件旬中，不能用if.not替代unless。如： Don't ask me to explain unless you really dont understand除非你真不懂，不然別讓我解釋。 The directors have

8、緊要。 I doubts if he has not made a contribution to the environment我懷疑他是不是沒有為環(huán)保做過貢獻(xiàn)。 (5)當(dāng)unless作介詞(“除以外”，“除非”)時(shí)，if.not不能與其互換使用。如： Nothing will come out of itunless(=except)disaster這件事除了引起災(zāi)禍之外，不會(huì)有什么結(jié)果。 Nothingunless a miracle，can save him除非消滅奇跡，否則他無法得救。 2unless從句中成分的省略 unless從句的主語與主句的主語相同時(shí)，unless從句中的主語

9、和謂語(或一部分)有時(shí)可省略。如： Unless(he is)in uniform。he doesnt look like a policeman假如不穿上制服，他看起來就不像警察。 Unless(I am)compelled t0 stay in by bad weather，I go for a walk every day若非天氣不好被迫呆在家里，我每天都出去閑逛。 Don't leave the building unless(you are)instructed to do so沒有得到通知，不要離開大樓。 The virus is capable of destroying

10、 an information stored in a computer unless(it is)detected and eradicated病毒如不查出并清楚掉，會(huì)把存儲(chǔ)在計(jì)算機(jī)里的資料全部毀掉。 3unless從句的時(shí)態(tài) 主句是一般將來時(shí)態(tài)、祈使句或謂語中含有情態(tài)動(dòng)詞或主句是一般現(xiàn)在時(shí)，unless引導(dǎo)的真實(shí)條件句用一般現(xiàn)在時(shí)；假如強(qiáng)調(diào)從句動(dòng)作發(fā)生在主句動(dòng)作之前，從旬可用現(xiàn)在完成時(shí)。 Don't touch the instruments unless the teacher allows you沒有老師的允許，不要亂動(dòng)儀器。 Unless you know a word，yo

11、u may consult a dictionary假如你不生疏哪個(gè)詞，你可以查詞典。 但主句是過去將來時(shí)或過去時(shí)，unless引導(dǎo)的真實(shí)條件句常用一般過去時(shí)。如： The disease prevented him from remembering things unless he was reminded by another這種病使他記不住事，只能靠別人提示。 4“祈使句(確定式)+orotherwise+陳述句”與“unless條件句+主句”間的轉(zhuǎn)換 “祈使旬(確定式)+or(else)otherwise+陳述句”與“unless條件句+主句”間有時(shí)可以相互轉(zhuǎn)換。如： Put on y

12、our raincoat or youll get soaked=Unless you put On your raincoat，youll get soakedIf you dont put on your raincoat，youll get soaked把雨衣穿上，否則你就會(huì)全身濕透的。 Store the meat in the fridge，otherwise it will go the fridge，otherwise it will go offIf you don't store the meat in the fridge，it will go off把肉放在冰箱里

13、，不然就會(huì)壞掉。 5在unles引導(dǎo)的確定形式的條件句中。通常用確定詞(some,already, still,too,as well等)；在if.not引導(dǎo)的條件句中通常用非確定詞(anyyetevereitherat all等) You ll never really know what happiness is unless you have something to compare it to只有通過對(duì)比，才能了解幸福的含義。 1 will inform her if you havent spoken to her yet假如你還沒跟她說，我通知她。 不過在ifnot引導(dǎo)的非真實(shí)條件句中，仍能用確定詞，由于這種條件句形式上是否定，意義上卻是確定。如： If he hadnt already prepared his lesson，he wouldnt be allowed to go要是他沒有做完功課，是不會(huì)允許出去的。(實(shí)際已做完功課)
