Can you guess who wrote it to me?Students: You friend?Your student?Teacher:No.It was from the earth mother.But why did she write the letter?Maybe we can find the answers from the letter. Do you want to listen?Students:Yes.Teacher:OK.While listening, Ill give you another question.That is “What did we do to her?”.Lets listen now.(After listening)Teacher:Thats all for the letter.Now, can anyone tell me why she wrote the letter to us?Students:Because she is ill/angry.Teacher:Good!And why was she ill?What did we do to her?Students:We cut down the trees,made the water dirty.Teacher:I agree with you.we did many bad things to her.We can also say,we polluted the earth.We have made so much pollution.Step two: Find the reasons.Teacher:So can you tell me more about pollution?What kinds of pollution do you know?Students:Water pollution,land pollution,noise pollution, air pollution, white pollution.(While students are talking, the teacher is drawing a mind map)Teacher:There are so many types of pollution! If we want to prevent the pollution,we must know where they come from.The time is limited.So well choose four of them to discuss.(Show the mind map in PPT)(Group work)Teacher:I have eight pieces of paper. Each group will get one.And youll find there is a topic and a number on the paper.First,you have to find reasons for the topic from the screen.Then add your own words. The more, the better.Group leaders, come here and choose your topic!(After one or two minutes)Teacher:Now please go and find the group which has the same number with you.Compare and complete your answers.And choose one to give us a report later.Step three: Predictions(results)(After the reports)Teacher:Thank you for your reports.Now we know the reasons why the earth mother is so angry. What we have done to her makes her badly ill.Suppose we continue doing like this, what will happen in 100 years?For example, I predict, the land will become desert . How about you?The phrases and structures may help.Students:Make predictions one by one.Step four: Find out the solutions.Teacher:I was totally shocked by your predictions.They are really terrible!We must take some action,or we will lose our earth mother!Lets pull together to find out some solutions.Teacher:Its time for you to discuss with your group.And you may write down your answers on the stickers.May be youll get some inspirations from the phrases.(Ask a group to talk about their solutions.other groups add different solutions.)Step five:Write a letter back to the earth.Teacher:(go back to the mind map)Thanks to your hard work.Now,we know what happened and what will happen to the earth.And we are clear what we should do from now on.Teacher:The earth mother is so angry and sad.Maybe we should write a letter back to her to say sorry and tell her our decisions.Do you agree?Students:Yeah.Teacher:You can write your letter on the color paper.Three minutes for you.
