IELTS SPEAKING - M.Y. Examiners instructions during the Speaking Test The examiner will walk to the door to welcome the candidate and direct him or her to the seat. The examiner will say the following statement before he starts the speaking test. The tape recorder will be turned on at this point.“This is the speaking module for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS)conducted on the 20th of July, 2009 in Harbin, China. The candidate is . Candidate number 000007. And the interviewer is.”After this, he will then ask 4 standard introductory questions in this order.1. “Good morning/afternoon. My name is. . Can you tell me your full name please?”2. “What shall I call you?”3. “Can you tell me where youre from?”4. “Can I see your ID card, please?”Now, the fun begins in Part 1.“Now, in the first part, Id like to ask you some questions about yourself. Lets talk about what you do. Do you work or are you a student?” What is your major?Why did you choose your major?How do you like your major? “Lets talk about sports (a new topic)What is your favorite sport? Why do you like it so much?What sports are played in your country? “Lets move on to the topic of . films(a new topic)Do you often go to the cinema?Which cinema do you often go to?What kind of films do you like?Do you often watch TV? Whats your favorite program?“Lets talk about . MusicHow often do you listen to music?What kind of music do you like?Whos your favorite singer? Can you describe him/her to me?In Part 2, the examiner starts by saying.“Now, Im going to give you a topic, and Id like you to talk about it for 1 to 2 minutes. Before you talk, youll have 1 minute to think about what youre going to say. You can make some notes if you wish. Do you understand?“Heres your paper and a pencil for making notes. And heres your topic. (The examiner hands you the cue card at this point). Id like you to describe .“All right. Remember you have 1 to 2 minutes for this, so dont worry if I stop you. Ill tell you when the time is up. Can you start speaking now, please?”In Part 3, the examiner starts by saying“Weve been talking about (Part 2s topic) and Id like to discuss with you 1 or 2 more general questions related to this.
