In just 100 years, the world changed completely. Medical advances ranged 1.from discovering the causes of diseases under microscopes to surgical procedures replacing diseased organs with 2.donated (donate) ones.It is possible to single out a few 3.pioneers (pioneer) of the 20th century. Here are five of them. One of the 20th centurys premier scientists was Albert Einstein. In the summer of 1905, this outspoken young man was rocking his oneyearold baby 4.when he was suddenly inspired. “Emc2” was born.5Using (use) the most highpowered telescope of the time, he began the long, slow process of exploring our galaxy. This blue mould was in fact the natural form of penicillin.During the Second World War, when Flemings discovery was first helping 8.to_cure (cure) people, the US Navy was looking for ways of improving the accuracy of their missiles. The navy turned 9.to Eckert, an engineer, and Mauchly, a physicist, to wrestle with the problem and produce a machine which was the worlds first computer to do the job. 10.Without the breakthroughs of these pioneers in science and technology, whether lucky or planned, the world as we know it today would have been a completely different place. Whats more exciting than having a fresh hot pizza delivered to your door? How about having it brought to you by a robot? Thanks to Dominos Robotic Unit or DRU, that just became a reality. On March 8, the threefoot tall robot made its first delivery to some lucky residents in Brisbane, Australia. The autonomous DRU is the result of a cooperation between Dominos Pizza Australia and Marathon Robotics. The machine can cover a distance of up to 12 miles and back before requiring a battery recharge. Equipped with Google Maps and GPS guidance, DRU can go along bike paths and sidewalks and also find the most efficient way to its destination. LIDAR, a laserbased sensor technology similar to the one used in selfdriving cars, enables DRU to detect and avoid obstacles, while traditional sensors ensure its path to its destination is safe. DRUs plastic shell protects the food from the bad weather, while its aluminum and steel container ensures that the pies remain hot.The robot can fit up to ten pizzas and even has a separate cold area to accommodate drink orders. To access their food, customers have to enter the unique code provided to them by the company. This not only ensures that they pick up the right pizza, but also prevents the pies from getting stolen.Dominos expects additional DRUs to be ready for service in their various Queensland locations within the next six months. But dont expect these super cute robots to replace humans anytime soon. According to Dominos, the DRU still needs extensive testing, which the company believes could take up to two years. There is also the issue of regulations. The public use of autonomous vehicles is still banned in most countries. But Don Meij, the CEO of Dominos Pizza, is not worried. He believes that one day DRU will become a necessary part of the Dominos family. 1Whats the function of LIDAR?AKeeping DRU free of obstacles.BRecharging DRUs battery.CHelping DRU find its destination.DProtecting DRU from bad weather. 故選A項(xiàng)。2What does the underlined word “accommodate” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?AHeat. BHold.CSell. DShow. 根據(jù)畫線詞前“and even has a separate cold area”可知,該機(jī)器人還有冷藏區(qū)域,因此可以推斷冷藏區(qū)可以容納飲品。故選B項(xiàng)。3Why does the company provide codes for its customers?ATo fit up more pizzas.BTo prevent the pizza being taken by mistake.CTo keep the pizza warm.DTo get the pizza paid in time. 根據(jù)第三段最后一句“This not only ensures that they pick up the right pizza, but also prevents the pies from getting stolen.” 4What can we infer about the future of DRU?AIt may need some improvements.BIt will replace humans soon.CIt may be banned in Australia.DIt will soon be applied worldwide. 根據(jù)第四段中的“the DRU still needs extensive testing”該機(jī)器人仍然需要大量的測試可推知,該機(jī)器人需要改進(jìn),故選A項(xiàng)。.閱讀七選五_1_ It sounds crazy, but these computerdriven driverless cars will soon be filling roads near you. So how do they work? The cars have sensors all around which can detect other cars and obstacles in the road. Sensors on the wheels also help when parking, so the cars know how far they are from other parked cars. Road signs are read by cameras, and satellite navigation (導(dǎo)航) systems are used, so the cars know how to get to your destination. _2_ Finally, central computer systems take in all the information they receive from the sensors and cameras and process this to control the cars.Sitting back, looking out of the windows and even watching a film or reading a book while “driving” will be possible with this new technology. You wont have to worry about remembering directions to where youre going. In addition, computers are generally more efficient drivers than humans, meaning emissions will be reduced. _3_ They dont get distracted by music or friends. They will obey the speed limit and theyll have quicker reaction time in case of an emergency._4_ Computers will have difficulties making ethical (倫理的) decisions: if a child ran into the road, would the computer choose to hit the child or potentially kill the cars passengers? Moreover, I personally find driving fun. _5
