ssion,preparedtonegotiatethereductionofarms,andyes,preparedtoreachoutagaininthespiritofreconciliation.Intruth,thereisnoreconciliationwewouldwelcomemorethanareconciliationwiththeSovietUnion,so,together,wecanlessentherisksofwar,nowandforever.It'sfittingtorememberherethegreatlossesalsosufferedbytheRussianpeopleduringWorldWarII:20millionperished,aterriblepricethattestifiestoalltheworldthenecessityofendingwar.ItellyoufrommyheartthatweintheUnitedStatesdonotwantwar.Wewanttowipefromthefaceoftheearththeterribleweaponsthatmannowhasinhishands.AndItellyou,wearereadytoseizethatbeachhead.WelookforsomesignfromtheSovietunionthattheyarewillingtomoveforward,thattheyshareourdesireandloveforpeace,andthattheywillgiveupthewaysofconquest.Theremustbeachangingtherethatwillallowustoturnourhopeintoaction.We'reboundtodaybywhatboundus40yearsago,thesameloyalties,traditions,andbeliefs.We'reboundbyreality.ThestrengthofAmerica'salliesisvitaltotheUnitedStates,andtheAmericansecurityguaranteeisessentialtothecontinuedfreedomofEurope'sdemocracies.Wewerewithyouthen;wearewithyounow.Yourhopesareourhopes,andyourdestinyisourdestiny.Here,inthisplacewheretheWestheldtogether,letusmakeavowtoourdead.Letusshowthembyouractionsthatweunderstandwhattheydiedfor.LetouractionssaytothemthewordsforwhichMatthewRidgwaylistened:“Iwillnotfailtheenorforsakethee.”Strengthenedbytheircourageandheartenedbytheirvalorandbornebytheirmemory,letuscontinuetostandfortheidealsforwhichtheylivedanddied.Thankyouverymuch,andGodblessyouall.3分鐘即興英語演講篇5Weobservetodaynotavictoryofparty,butacelebrationoffreedom--symbolizinganend,aswellasabeginning--signifyingrenewal,aswellaschange.ForIhaveswornbeforeyouandAlmightyGodthesamesolemnoathourforebearsprescribednearlyacenturyandthree-quartersago.Theworldisverydifferentnow.Formanholdsinhismortalhandsthepowertoabolishallformsofhumanpovertyandallformsofhumanlife.Andyetthesamerevolutionarybeliefsforwhichourforebearsfoughtarestillatissuearoundtheglobe--thebeliefthattherightsofmancomenotfromthegenerosityofthestate,butfromthehandofGod.Wedarenotforgettodaythatwearetheheirsofthatfirstrevolution.Letthewordgoforthfromthistimeandplace,tofriendandfoealike,thatthetorchhasbeenpassedtoanewgenerationofAmericans--borninthiscentury,temperedbywar,disciplinedbyahardandbitterpeace,proudofourancientheritage,andunwillingtowitnessorpermittheslowundoingofthosehumanrightstowhichthisnationhasalwaysbeencommitted,andtowhichwearecommittedtodayathomeandaroundtheworld.Leteverynationknow,whetheritwishesuswellorill,thatweshallpayanyprice,bearanyburden,meetanyhardship,supportanyfriend,opposeanyfoe,toassurethesurvivalandthesuccessofliberty.Thismuchwepledge--andmore.Tothoseoldallieswhoseculturalandspiritualoriginsweshare,wepledgetheloyaltyoffaithfulfriends.Unitedthereislittlewecannotdoinahostofcooperativeventures.Dividedthereislittlewecando--forwedarenotmeetapowerfulchallengeatoddsandsplitasunder.Tothosenewstateswhomwewelcometotheranksofthefree,wepledgeourwordthatoneformofcolonialcontrolshallnothavepassedawaymerelytobereplacedbyafarmoreirontyranny.Weshallnotalwaysexpecttofindthemsupportingourview.Butweshallalwayshopetofindthemstronglysupportingtheirownfreedom--andtorememberthat,inthepast,thosewhofoolishlysoughtpowerbyridingthebackofthetigerendedupinside.Tothosepeopleinthehutsandvillagesofhalftheglobestrugglingtobreakthebondsofmassmisery,wepledgeourbesteffortstohelpthemhelpthemselves,forwhateverperiodisrequired--notbecausetheCommunistsmaybedoingit,notbecauseweseektheirvotes,butbecauseitisright.Ifafreesocietycannothelpthemanywhoarepoor,itcannotsavethefewwhoarerich.Tooursisterrepublicssouthofourborder,weofferaspecialpledge:toconvertourgoodwordsintogooddeeds,inanewallianceforprogress,toassistfreemenandfreegovernmentsincastingoffthechainsofpoverty.Butthispeacefulrevolutionofhopecannotbecomethepreyofhostilepowers.LetallourneighborsknowthatweshalljoinwiththemtoopposeaggressionorsubversionanywhereintheAmericas.Andleteveryotherpowerknowthatthishemisphereintendstoremainthemasterofitsownhouse.Tothatworldassemblyofsovereignstates,theUnitedNations,ourlastbesthopeinanagewheretheinstrumentsofwarhavefaroutpacedtheinstrumentsofpeace,werenewourpledgeofsupport--topreventitfrombecomingmerelyaforumforinvective,tostrengthenitsshieldofthenewandtheweak,andtoenlargetheareainwhichitswritmayrun.Finally,tothosenationswhowouldmakethemselvesouradversary,weoffernotapledgebutarequest:thatbothsidesbeginanewthequestforpeace,beforethedarkpowersofdestructionunleashedbyscienceengulfallhumanityinplannedoraccidentalself-destruction.Wedarenottemptthemwithweakness.Foronlywhenourarmsaresufficientbeyonddoubtcanwebecertainbeyonddoubtthattheywillneverbeemployed.Butneithercantwogreatandpowerfulgroupsofnationstakecomfortfromourpresentcourse--bothsidesoverburdenedbythecostofmodernweapons,bothrightlyalarmedbythesteadyspreadofthedeadlyatom,yetbothracingtoalterthatuncertainbalanceofterrorthatstaysthehandofmankind'sfinalwar.Soletusbeginanew--rememberingonbothsidesthatcivilityisnotasignofweakness,andsincerityisalwayssubjecttoproof.Letu
