In addition to all the things we can't see, there are also the things we don't want to see because we have chosen to ignore them. Right now, for example, I have chosen to ignore the sound of my breath, the feel of the ring on my finger, the sight of the glasses right on my nose, even the nose itself. The aperture of a camera and the pupil are not there to let information in, but to block it out. Anyone who has ever held a camera knows that too much information can blind you just as much as too little. If you tried to listen to all nine of Beethoven's symphonies at once, all you would hear is the noise. #K.C. Cole
