honeybeespreventselephants.Nowyellow-paintedbeehive(蜂巢)fencesprotectsomeofthelocalplots.The

projectissupporting40farmerswhosecropsareprotectedby15hives.Eachofthehivesisstrungonawireafew

metersofftheground.Thisprotectsthemfrominsectsandallowsthemtoshakeiftheyaredisturbedbyanelephant,

Anine-yearstudymonitored26farmsthatwereprotectedbythebeehivefencesintwovillagesnearthepark.

Duringthepeakgrowingseasons-NovembertoJanuaryfrom2014to2020一3,027elephantsapproachedthe

fencesandmostwereprevented.Duringthedroughtof2017,whichreducedthenumberofbeesinthehivesby75

percent,elephantswerestillprevented76percentofthetime.

SavetheElephantsisnowpromotingbeehivefencesin15countriesinAfricaandAsia.Butbesides
