ersityopenedup.Iparticipatedinaseminar--taughtanafternoonsessionandseminaratOralRobertsUniversity.ThedeanoftheuniversitysawmeteachingandinquiredastowhetherIwouldbeinterestedinfurthering--pursuingacareerinteaching,beginningatOralRobertsUniversity.IagreedtotakethejobinlargepartbecauseofmydesiretoescapethepressuresIfeltattheEEOCduetoJudgeThomas.WhenIinformedhimthatIwasleavinginJuly,IrecallthathisresponsewasthatnowIwouldnolongerhaveanexcusefornotgoingoutwithhim.ItoldhimthatIstillpreferrednottodoso.Atsometimeafterthatmeeting,heaskedifhecouldtakemetodinnerattheendoftheterm.WhenIdeclined,heassuredmethatthedinnerwasaprofessionalcourtesyonlyandnotasocialinvitation.Ireluctantlyagreedtoacceptthatinvitation,butonlyifitwasattheeveryendofaworkingday.On,asIrecall,thelastdayofmyemploymentattheEEOCinthesummerof1983,IdidhavedinnerwithClarenceThomas.Wewentdirectlyfromworktoarestaurantneartheoffice.WetalkedabouttheworkIhaddone,bothateducationandattheEEOC.HetoldmethathewaspleasedwithallofitexceptforanarticleandspeechthatIhaddoneforhimwhilewewereattheOfficeforCivilRights.Finally,hemadeacommentthatIwillvividlyremember.HesaidthatifIevertoldanyoneofhisbehaviorthatitwouldruinhiscareer.Thiswasnotanapology,norwasitanexplanation.Thatwashislastremarkaboutthepossibilityofourgoingoutorreferencetohisbehavior.InJulyof1983,IleftWashington,DCareaandhavehadminimalcontactwithJudgeClarenceThomassince.IamofcourseawarefromthepressthatsomequestionshavebeenraisedaboutconversationsIhadwithJudgeClarenceThomasafterIlefttheEEOC.From1983untiltoday,IhaveseenJudgeThomasonlytwice.Ononeoccasion,Ineededtogetareferencefromhim,andonanotherhemadeapublicappearanceinTulsa.Ononeoccasionhecalledmeathomeandwehadaninconsequentialconversation.Ononeoccasionhecalledmewithoutreachingme,andIreturnedthecallwithoutreachinghim,andnothingcameofit.Ihaveonatleastthreeoccasions,beenaskedtoactasaconduittohimforothers.Iknewhissecretary,DianeHolt.WehadworkedtogetheratbothEEOCandeducation.TherewereoccasionsonwhichIspoketoher,andonsomeoftheseoccasionsundoubtedlyIpassedonsomecasualcommenttothenChairmanThomas.Therewereaseriesofcallsinthefirstthreemonthsof1985,occasionedbyagroupinTulsa,whichwishedtohaveacivilrightsconference.TheywantedJudgeThomastobethespeakerandenlistedmyassistanceforthispurpose.IdidcallinJanuaryandFebruarytonoeffect,andfinallysuggestedtothepersondirectlyinvolved,SusanCahal(ph)thatsheputthematterintoherownhandsandcalldirectly.ShedidsoinMarchof1985.InconnectionwiththatMarchinvitation,Ms.Cahal(ph)wantedconferencematerialsfortheseminarandsomeresearchwasneeded.Iwasaskedtotrytogettheinformationanddidattemptedtodoso.TherewasanothercallaboutanotherpossibleconferenceinJulyof1985.InAugustof1987,IwasinWashington,DCandIdidcallDianeHolt.Inthecourseofthisconversation,sheaskedmehowlongIwasgoingtobeintownandItoldher.ItisrecordedinthemessageasAugust15.Itwas,infact,August20th.ShetoldmeaboutJudgeThomassmarriageandIdidsaycongratulatehim.ItisonlyafteragreatdealofagonizingconsiderationthatIamabletotalkoftheseunpleasantmatterstoanyoneexceptmyclosestfriends.AsIvesaidbeforetheselastfewdayshavebeenverytryingandveryhardformeandithasntjustbeenthelastfewdaysthisweek.IthasactuallybeenoveramonthnowthatIhavebeenunderthestrainofthisissue.Tellingtheworldisthemostdifficultexperienceofmylife,butitisveryclosetohavingtolivethroughtheexperiencethatoccasionthismeeting.Imayhaveusedpoorjudgmentearlyoninmyrelationshipwiththisissue.Iwasaware,however,thattellingatanypointinmycareercouldadverselyaffectmyfuturecareer.AndIdidnotwantearlyontoburnallthebridgestotheEEOC.AsIsaid,Imayhaveusedpoorjudgment.PerhapsIshouldhavetakenangryorevenmilitantsteps,bothwhenIwasintheagency,orafterIleftit.ButImustconfesstotheworldthatthecoursethatItookseemedthebetteraswellastheeasierapproach.Ideclinedanycommenttonewspapers,butlaterwhenSenatestaffaskedmeaboutthesemattersIfeltIhadadutytoreport.IhavenopersonalvendettaagainstClarenceThomas.Iseekonlytoprovidethecommitteewithinformationwhichitmayregardasrelevant.Itwouldhavebeenmorecomfortabletoremainsilent.Itooknoinitiativetoinformanyone.ButwhenIwasaskedbyarepresentativeofthiscommitteetoreportmyexperience,IfeltthatIhadtotellthetruth.Icouldnotkeepsilent.Goodmorning:Honorablejudges,dearteachersandclosefriends.I’mverygladtostandheretosharemyspeechwithyou.TodayI’mgoingtotalkaboutLoveandTakecareofNature.MotherNatureisanexquisiteandcomplexlife-system.Itscharmappearsinthetrees,stream,soil,insects,mossandfungus,allthethingsontheearthindifferentshapes,whichareinterdependent.Whenyougetclosetonature,pleaseremember,eachtree,stoneandspeciesofanimalsherehaslivedharmoniouslyforhundreds,thousandsorevenmillionsofyears.Whenwepassaway,theywillcontinuetolive.Theyaretherealmasters,whilewearejustthepasser-by.However,theconductweunconsciouslydo,suchaspicking,lumbering,trampingandabusingcanprobablydestroythebalanceoftheirlife.Therefore,wemustreduceourbadinfluenceasmuchaspossible.Whileyouareenjoyingthenature,donotforgetplease,thebeautyofthelivesalsoneedstobeconcernedwithandtobeprotected.Eachlifeontheearthhasalongandtouchingevolutionarystory.Fromtheorigin,thelivesofthehumanbeingareequaltothoseofothers;theybotharethecomposingpartsofMotherNature.Nevertheless,forsomeinexplicablereasons,thehumanbecomesthespiritsofallcreatures.Ofcourse,itistheresultoftheevolution,butstillweshouldbegratefultoallourcompanionsinnaturefortheopportunitytheyoffer.Inspiteofthis,humanscannotlivewithoutearth.Theyliveontheearth,drinkthesweetwater,andenjoythesunshine,theair,thesky,thefruit;thegrainsutilizetheenergyandsoon.Inaword,thehumanbeingcannotlivewithoutnature,andMotherNaturemakesusgrowstronger.IdonotlikethewordPet,butpreferringthewordAnimalinstead.IhavebeenlovinganimalsinceIwasjustalittleboy.WhenthinkingofthePetFashion,Ialwaysfeelmuchannoyed.Fortheanimalswillbegivenashackleandlosetheirlibertyiftheybecomesomeonespets.Theirnaturalattributioncanbedeprived,too.Uptonow,relyingontheirscientificpower,thehumanhaveopeneduptoomuchandoverdevelopednature,inordertofilluptheirgrowingappetitesofwealth.Theydestroythebalanceofnature,however,theydontrealize,theirowndevelopmentandexistencewillbethreatened.Therefore,oursightsshouldbefocusedonnatureandweshouldtrytodeveloptheconceptofkeepinghumanandnatureinunity.Weshouldlayemphasisonoureducationwithconsiderculturalandnaturalemotion.Greetings,everybody.Itsreallygreattobehere.IdliketotalkaboutmyfavoriteTVchannels.IenjoywatchingTV.Imnotembarrassedtoadmitit.Notallprogramsareabigwasteoftime.Someprogramsareeducationalandworthwhile.Somechannelsarerelaxingandentertaining.Letmeintroducemyfourfavoritestoyou.First,Iloveactionmovies.Ithriveontheexcitement.Theymakemefeelsoalive.IpretendImthehero.Ialwaysdefeatthebadguys.Iusuallyenduphavingabeautifulgirlfriend.Actionmoviesareablast.Actionmovieaniceescape.IrecommendtheactionmoviesonHBO.Second,Ireallylikecomedy.Ilikehumorousentertainment.Italwayscheersmeup.Laughterissohealthy.Itslikefoodforthesoul.Itslikesunshineonarainyday.Mycomedymusthavequality.Itmustbewholesomeandgood-natured.Itcanneverbesexistorhumiliating.Third,Iloveadventureprograms.Imnutsabouttraveling.TheTravelChannelisafavorite.Ialsolovetoexplore.Imintoscienceandinnovation.TheDiscoveryChannelalwaysfascinatesme.Besides,Imcrazyaboutanimals.Irespecttheanimalkingdom.IthinkAnimalPlanetisreallycool.Finally,Ilovewatchingthenews.Imanewsfreak.Imapoliticsjunky.Icantgetenoughofpolitics.Ianalyzeandcomparemanynewsshows.IseldombelievemuchofwhatIhear.Iknowpoliticsturnsalotofpeopleoff.Itturnsmeon.Itsmydutyasacitizentostayinformed.Inconclusion,Ienjoythetube.Itsreallynotsobad.Itsnotalluselessjunk.Enjoy
